ESRI Developers Summit 2023 Recap

In this blog post, I discussed my the Esri 2023 Developers Summit, where I took an interesting Experience Builder introduction workshop. The summit featured discussions, workshops, and presentations on data visualization, machine learning, and geospatial analytics, among other topics. The Dev Summit was both inspirational and transforming for me as a GIS professional, giving me with valuable insights, skills, and networking opportunities. The event stressed the necessity of flexibility, scalability, and interoperability in GIS development in the future.

I struggled to complete an overview before the Dev Summit. I hope everyone had fun as I did. Staffing shortages have forced me to take on more work. Despite 18-hour workdays and emergency floods, I was permitted to attend the Dev Summit. I'll write on HEC-RAS hydraulic models and stable vs. unsteady flow modeling later, but DEV SUMMIT!

I attended a two-day Experience Builder introduction class since I intended to bring team members and it would be a fantastic topic for discussion. It was a terrific starting class. Day 1 was a recap of Experience Builder for me. I found a python script and scraped all the bars from a webpage. Python script, feature class, and data publication. I finished the day with a passable web app with basic capabilities. Link here...

Experience Builder class day two was more engaging. We created a widget from scratch. Web App Builder widgets are different. Every widget in Experience Builder uses React. Accessibility, internationalization, and Jimu class assistance were intriguing.

After the lesson, I wondered, "Why would I want to spend 10 hours getting 3 widgets to interact when I could spend 10 hours standing up a custom app just as easily?" This question established my Dev Summit schedule.

I spent hours on the show floor debating GIS technology's future with developers, Esri workers, and industry experts. The 2023 Esri Developers Summit presented GIS technologies, tools, and platforms. It was great to be a part of such an amazing group of developers, designers, and GIS experts from across the world gathered to advance their GIS knowledge.

The Experience Builder class wasn't the only highlight. The Dev Summit featured talks, workshops, and presentations on data visualization, machine learning, geospatial analytics, and more. Industry professionals and Esri personnel led several of these workshops, sharing their knowledge and best practices. GIS professionals networked, shared expertise, and collaborated at these events.

The plenary session, where Esri's leadership presented their latest platforms and technologies and their development strategy, was a highlight of the Dev Summit. Developers were shown how cutting-edge technologies and apps may help them solve the world's biggest problems.

The Esri Showcase, where Dev Summit participants could explore interactive demos, examine the newest product releases, and speak with Esri specialists on technical problems, was another highlight. This hands-on event helped developers understand Esri's technology stack and how it can be used to create strong and impactful GIS applications.

The Dev Summit showed that GIS development will focus on flexibility, scalability, and interoperability. APIs, serverless architecture, cloud-native apps, and more were covered in several talks and workshops. Open standards and a collaborative environment that allows developers to build on each other's work, exchange expertise, and advance the industry were also highlighted during the event.

I was excited and optimistic about GIS technology after the 2023 Esri Developers Summit. The event reminded developers and GIS experts that we can determine the future of our business by leveraging these breakthrough tools and technology.

In conclusion, the 2023 Esri Developers Summit was motivating and transformational, providing attendees with information, skills, and contacts to succeed in their GIS professions. Let us take the lessons, insights, and inspiration from the Dev Summit and the GIS community's spirit of cooperation and creativity into our daily lives and issues.
